Welcome to Kinesthetic Homestead

Welcome to our blog Kinesthetic Homestead.  I arrived at this name after researching what it is to learn by doing.  Kinaesthetic learning happens when we have a hands-on experience. An example of a kinaesthetic learning experience is when a person learns to use a swing or to ride a bike. They can read instructions or listen to instructions, but deep learning occurs via the process of doing.

I am beginning many firsts this year by creating my own starter for sourdough bread and drying herbs for tea.  I have created beeswax candles scented with essential oils and love to experiment with making things as well as growing things.   I have several things planned for this year and hope you will join me while I learn how to homestead by jumping in and doing it.

Last year I started growing food again after taking several years off with raising my children and working in Real Estate full time.  I found it to fulfill me seeing food growing and being able to check on things every day.  I shared my experience on Facebook and my personal Instagram account and found several people I consider mentors watching on YouTube learning their ways and watching them create homesteads.

Some background information is that we live in a subdivision on just over half an acre.  I started with deck containers and expanded into grow bags.  Started my own seeds in February last year and only grew two types of tomatoes.  We had 8 slicer plants and 1 cherry tomato plant that produced almost more than we could eat ;)  I have plans to start seeds at the end of February this year and have purchased more tools to help as you will see in upcoming videos.

If you are just beginning to learn or still just enjoying watching those of us who have started, I invite you to join me in my experiences of learning with a hands-on experience.  Feel free to provide your own tips and tricks as you watch me attempt!

Below are a few of my growing attempts from 2021.
